The Gate is the checkpoint between drafting and filing. Every citation is checked twice: once that it's still good law, once that it says what you claim it says.
Layer one: good law
Every authority you cite is checked for validity and subsequent history before it leaves the building: overruled, superseded, limited, or questioned. You find out before the court does, not after opposing counsel's reply brief does.
Layer two: says what you claim
The proposition you're citing the authority for is checked against what it actually holds, not merely whether the case exists. A real citation stretched past what it says is the failure mode behind most sanctions headlines. Caught at the door, every time, on every draft.
The audit dashboard
Every AI-assisted output in the firm is logged: who ran it, what checked it, what shipped, and when. Rule 5.3 supervision becomes a control you can produce in an audit, not a memo you hope someone read and followed.
Anything drafted from the Proof Engine passes the Gate on the way out. The strip proves the case; the Gate protects the license.
What it doesn't do
The Gate verifies citations and quotations against their sources. It doesn't argue your motion, and passing the Gate isn't legal advice. It's the floor, not the ceiling: the part that should never have been in question in the first place.
The last checkpoint before anything surfaces in a filing.
The Gate reads every citation and every quoted or paraphrased proposition in a draft, and checks each one against primary sources: the reporter or statute itself, and its subsequent history, whether it has been overruled, limited, or questioned.
It produces a verification record for every citation, validated or flagged, with the reason attached, plus a firm-wide log of who ran the draft, what the Gate checked, and what ultimately shipped. Filing still requires an attorney's review and signature; the Gate does not file anything on its own.
The limit: the Gate confirms a citation is good law and says what you claim it says. It does not evaluate whether the argument built on that citation is persuasive, or whether it is even the right authority to cite. That judgment is still the lawyer's, on every brief.
